AB SCIEX has introduced the most advanced high resolution mass spectrometer at the 58th American Society of Mass Spectroscopy to further push triple quadrupole systems out of research labs.
Called the AB SCIEX TripleTOF 5600+ System, it integrates the comprehensive qualitative exploration capabilities associated with a high resolution accurate-mass system, rapid profiling and the quantitative workflow capabilities of triple quadrupole system on a single easy to use platform. It is being touted as being the most sensitive and the fastest high resolution mass spectrometer in the the market for high-performance qualitative and quantitative analysis. It allows for identification of low-abundance analytes in complex matrices.

The 5600+ system is built on top of AB SCIEX’s TripleTOF Technology that has become a stable of many proteomics labs. Additional improvements include SmartSpeed 100hz Acquisition, MS/MSALL with SWATH Acquisition, EasyMass™ Accuracy and Accelerator TOF™ Analyzer.
SmartSpeed 100Hz Acquisition delivers up to 100 spectra in a second, perfect for high speed chromatography tests. AB SCIEX guarantees that it is 5 times faster than any other high resolution mass spectrometry system.
MS/MSALL with SWATH™ Acquisition provides comprehensive MS/MS data in proteomics rivalling triple quadrupole . For an additional level of separation used can opt for Optional SelexION™ Technology.
Apart from aiming to replace triple quadrupole systems, other areas of potential applications include drug discovery, biomarker detection environmental analysis and food safety, with hopefully less background noise without the need of SRM/MRM.

Update: Waters also announced the Waters® Vion IMS QTof Mass Spectrometer which promises another dimension of separation based on shape, mass and charge and ion mobility.
