A New NanoDrop with Contaminant Identification
Thermo Scientific has released the NanoDrop One and NanoDrop OnecUV-Vis, the last devices from the NanoDrop series of microvolume UV-Vis spectrophotometers and fluorospectrometers to measure DNA, RNA and protein concentration from just one microliter of sample. The NanoDrop One and Onec UV-Vis include an embedded technical support, wi-fi and bluetooth connection, contaminant identification and touchscreen interface.
NanoDrop products, released fifteen years ago, quickly became common in most lab benches due to it fast and easy way of calculating sample concentrations. An undiluted drop of 0.5-1 uL of sample is loaded onto the pedestal, and the result is obtained in a few seconds. The data is precise and reliable to perform downstream applications like PCR, Western Blot, sequencing, enzyme kinetics, etc. There is no need for cuvettes or any other special lab consumables. Its small footprint makes it very easy to fit in any space. The spectrophotometer quickly reached 30.000 citations in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
The NanoDrop One/Onec UV-Vis includes several new features that prevent delays, collect data faster and save even more bench space. A tablet has been integrated in the device, saving the money and space that a PC implies. Data van be transferred via Ethernet, USB or Wireless. An Auto-Measure function allows to automatically measure the sample when the measuring arm is down, making multi-sample processing more smooth. A wider dynamic range means super-concentrated samples can be measured (DNA at 27,500 ug/µL).
The NanoDrop Onec includes also a cuvette position to measure dilute samples, bacterial culture optical density or perform kinetics experiments. Temperature and stirring can be controlled.
